This is hilarious!

So as I’m writing this in March there was a story in the paper today. In it, a woman (would we call her a Karen?) was refused service at the Essex Street Food Market because she wasn’t wearing a mask.

Now, the people AROUND her were all wearing masks and not only that but there was a plexiglass shield between her and the person serving her so for all the hubbub it really shouldn’t have been such an issue. I get it, you don’t know what the deal is and you don’t want to expose yourself so it’s bothersome to see someone not wearing a mask especially if you haven’t been vaccinated but again the other person might have been  vaccinated and you just don’t know.

Rather than just serving the woman, this got drawn out longer and a scene was created and of course because every idiot in the world now has a phone it can be captured for posterity.

Now, that would be likely bad enough in today’s righteous avenger world but this woman CROSSED THE LINE! That’s because this lily white woman USED THE N WORD!

Oh my God! Ohmigod! OHMIGOD! OH NO, SHE DIDN’T!

Yes, she did.

Here’s the rub though... the woman who had four kids with her had children who were all biracial. Yep, that’s right, that white woman had four children who have a father that is a person of color. So, that even added to the shock but you know what?

Here’s the rub about her using that language (b**ch a$$ ni***r), that’s a phrase I’ve heard before being used quite a bit by... wait for it... wait for it... other people of color referring to ONE AND OTHER! No doubt, it’s something hubby uses (or the people in their circle of friends) use enough that it’s a default for her.

Here’s an idea moving forward: If you don’t want people to call you a certain word maybe you should start by not referring to each other by that same word. I don’t want to hear any of this bullshit about how the use of the n word by people of color is somehow acceptable and some kind of reappropriation because it really isn’t.

No other ethnic group would approach each other using a slur as a means of endearment and there are slews of examples I could list for all kinds or other ethnic, religious and racial groups. Let’s stop with the stupidity and the other thing is, I’ve been around when that’s been thrown by one person of color and another and it wasn’t as a form of endearment in the slightest.

The only way words go out of fashion in language is for people to stop using them and that’s why there are a lot of slurs that I can remember from my childhood that have gone away for the most part because not only are they not used in daily life but people have forgotten them because they never encountered those words so there was no opportunity for them to be a part of normal usage.

Until that word stops being used by everyone we’re still going to have people using it in ways that make people angry and that are hurtful and it’s well past time we put that word into the graveyard of all the other slurs that aren’t used anymore.
